The 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

This week’s Gospel is from Matthew 22: 15-21.

This week, we see the Pharisees plotting how they might entrap Jesus into speech that will cause him trouble. They ask Jesus if they should pay the census tax to Caesar…? We then receive Jesus’ powerful response.

Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s”

Pope Francis reflects on the question posed by the Pharisees, and notices Jesus draws a more radical and vital question for each of us, a question we can ask ourselves: to whom do I belong? To family, to the city, to friends, to work, to politics, to the State?  Or to God?

We will also be live streaming Mass this Sunday (18th October) at 10am from The Sacred Heart Church.  This will be followed by the streaming of the Children's Liturgy at 11:30am.

Back2Basics - Reconciliation

The sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) is often called 'the forgotten sacrament.' It's not an easy sacrament to talk about, either as a parent or a catechist. Yet it is the sacrament of God's infinite mercy, a sure means to receive and experience the transforming power of God's forgiveness and love. The FFM team have created an online group input that will help everyone wanting to know more about this sacrament, especially catechists and parents whose children are preparing for first Reconciliation and Communion.

The sacrament will be presented through artworks and group activities, and in the light of the Faith of the Church explained in a deeper way, with opportunities for discussion. There will also be a time of prayer with the Dominican sisters at the end of each session.

The Back2Basics Reconciliation will take place every Monday evening via Zoom, from 7pm to 9pm starting on the 2nd November for 6 weeks. See this weeks e-News

Through the Called & Gifted process run by our Portsmouth Diocese, a growing number of people (currently over 60) have been able to discern that they have the charism of Intercessory Prayer. The intercessions could include prayers for our Diocese, Sacred Heart Church and all the people in it, Fr Paul or maybe something or someone close to you? Perhaps something you’re concerned about relating to yourself, a family member or friend? If you wish the intercessors to pray for you, please email the team.
