The 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Saints Peter & Paul

Welcome to the latest update from Sacred Heart.

Some people have a mat at their door that says ‘Welcome’. What does it mean to welcome someone? Have you ever felt welcomed, or unwelcome? Jesus always had time for other people, even when he was feeling tired. In the reading today Jesus tells us that when we welcome others and are kind to them, it is just as if we are welcoming Jesus.  And of course if we're welcoming Jesus then we're also welcoming God the Father.

Dear Friends

Since the announcement was made that churches can open for private prayer our Parish Council, Health & Safety team & Maintenance team  have been working hard to enable us to open our doors on Monday 6th July for private prayer. The Sacred Heart Church will be open it’s doors on Monday 6th July and then on Monday mornings 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and on Tuesday evenings 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, for private prayer.

St Joseph's in Basingstoke are currently opening their doors for private prayer on Mondays from 10 am to 12 noon and Fridays from 10 am and 12 noon. Also St Bede’s in Popley are open for private prayer Monday to Saturday 10:15am to 5:00pm and Sundays 2:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Obviously, there is no obligation for anyone to attend church during this time and no-one should feel guilty about not coming back to church until they feel that it is totally safe to do so.

God bless Fr. Paul

Volunteers Still Needed

We have been given permission to open our church for a few hours a week for private prayer. For our church to be able to open we need volunteer stewards to be present during the opening times. This is to make sure that good practice is exercised: 2 metre distancing; sitting only at designated places, keeping to a one way system …. sanitising on entry and exit. If you are able to volunteer for a few hours and you are not on the government’s shielding list or vulnerable. We would love to hear from you please email the office on hook@portsmouthdiocese.org.uk

Ananias Training

Do you want to help others come closer to Jesus?

We are called, in our own individual ways, to help others to build a closer relationship with Jesus, and there are some tools that each of us can learn to use in this task.

Inspired by the conversion of St Paul (from Saul the persecutor to Paul the Apostle), Ananias Training equips each of us in practical skills that are useful in helping others to get closer to Jesus. These are skills that anyone can use to journey spiritually alongside others, assured that Jesus Christ is also walking with you. Where do Ananiases make a difference? Ananiases can make a difference just by being there for someone who needs to grow in their relationship with Jesus; being able to talk about their own relationship with Jesus and responding appropriately. Breaking the cultural silence that exists around Jesus.

If this sparks your interest then please reach out to Joan Kent at tran_joan@yahoo.co.uk or the parish office and let us know you’re interested and we will provide you with the dates and log in for the online zoom course with Clare Simpson.

We Still Need Your Photos

We would like to fill the chairs in the church with photos and / or pictures of you all. Can you send us photos or pictures of yourselves and family. Your photos or pictures can be emailed to us at hook@portsmouthdiocese.org.uk We will then print them off and attach them to the chairs in the church.

The Diocesan Prayer and Listening Service Prayer and listening to God is a vital part of our everyday life, but sometimes it is difficult to pray when we are exhausted or in stressful situations or by ourselves. The diocese has created a team of trained volunteers with experience in both praying with others and in spiritual listening, and have been through the essential safeguarding training and other requirements. If you are over 18 and would like some prayer support or to speak to someone about spiritual matters, please follow the link for further information and to complete the appropriate online form to request a 'phone call.
