The Verbum Dei Family in Southampton is inviting you an online encounter entitled, “What are you hearing? Fake News or Good News”. The event will be held using zoom on Saturday 23rd January from 10.00am to 6.00pm. An Encounter is an interactive event involving some talks, some group discussions, some prayer and reflection. It will lively and a lot of fun. We have built in some good breaks to avoid zoom-fatigue. During this day, we hope to encounter Christ more fully, by addressing three questions

 1.  What is the aim and purpose of my life now in January 2021?

 2.  Do I want to make a change and how am I going to do it?

 3.  What will this change mean for me and how can I live my new relationship with Jesus?

We are going to use the experiences and the journey of the Apostle Paul to help us along this route. If you are interested then please register by emailing We are looking forward to welcoming you.

Starting on Monday 18th January at 7:30pm
and running for eleven weeks.

Jesus – The Way, The Truth and the Life

Are you looking to find out more on Jesus and his ministry? This is a Powerful Study on the Life of Jesus Christ. The marvellous treasures of the Catholic Faith— the Eucharist, Mary, the saints, and the Creed—are all centered on a single figure: Jesus Christ. Jesus is more than a historical or theological figure. He is our Saviour, our Redeemer, our Lord, and our God. While many of us already know a lot about him, how well can we say we really know him? Filmed on location in the Holy Land, Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life is a new and fresh look at Jesus—who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, and what he did for our salvation. This encounter with Christ will inspire and empower you to center your entire life on him as you come to know and love him in an ever-deeper and more intimate way. Starting Tuesday 12th January 7.45pm. If you would like to register for this course – please contact Joan at

Back2Basics – Reconciliation

The sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) is often called ‘the forgotten sacrament.’ It’s not an easy sacrament to talk about, either as a parent or a catechist. Yet it is the sacrament of God’s infinite mercy, a sure means to receive and experience the transforming power of God’s forgiveness and love. The FFM team have created an online group input that will help everyone wanting to know more about this sacrament, especially catechists and parents whose children are preparing for first Reconciliation and Communion.

The sacrament will be presented through artworks and group activities, and in the light of the Faith of the Church explained in a deeper way, with opportunities for discussion. There will also be a time of prayer with the Dominican sisters at the end of each session.

The Back2Basics Reconciliation will take place every Monday evening via Zoom, from 7pm to 9pm starting on the 2nd November for 6 weeks. See this weeks e-News

We hope you can join us on Thursday 24 September at
where we will be live streaming a talk from
Fr Liam and Fr Yamai from the Carmelite Priory at Boars
Hill in Oxford.

These are difficult times and people are searching for
solutions. Our trainings and sophisticated systems and
our faith all seem inadequate in the light of the present
crisis. In the face of our helplessness, we ask the same
question as did the disciples: to whom shall we go? Who
do we turn to? Where shall we find help in this day of
trouble? Where shall we find rest for our wearied souls?

In this presentation, Fr Liam will explore these
questions, drawing insights from Carmelite spirituality
especially the guidance of Saint Teresa of Jesus, who
also faced challenging times and left us a wealth of
teaching in her writings on how one can pray through
the storms of life.

ADoRE 45TH Anniversary on 22nd August, 2020

On Saturday 22nd August Bishop Philip will celebrate the 45th anniversary of Alton Day of Renewal (ADoRE)
with a special live-stream Mass from St John’s Cathedral in Portsmouth. The Day of Renewal is part of the move
of the Holy Spirit known as Catholic Charismatic Renewal, which has been referred to by Pope Francis as “a
current of grace for the whole church.” ADoRE was started in 1975 by Fr Brian Coogan (who is now living in
retirement in the Isle of Wight, having been a priest for 73 years!) and is one of the longest continually running
monthly renewal meetings in the country. The live-stream Mass, followed by Adoration, is at 10.00am and can
be followed by anyone.
From 11.00am the celebrations continue on Zoom, where registered participants can enjoy praise and worship,
shared prophecies, and an inspiring talk on the Holy Spirit from internationally acclaimed renewal leader,
speaker and author Charles Whitehead KSG, who worked closely with Pope Saint John Paul II. There will also be
an opportunity to receive prayer for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit. Please register in advance here
