Today marks the close of the Christmas season, but before we return to Ordinary Time, we have one more great feast to celebrate — The Baptism of the Lord. Today’s feast is a perfect opportunity to consider the privileges and responsibilities we all share as Christian stewards by virtue of our own Baptism.

Year of the Word

The Year of God’s Word has begun. Bishop Philip Egan has sent us copies of the Gospel of Luke, along with prayer cards for the Renewal of our Diocese. These can be found in the porch.

There's not many left, so please grab one per family while you still can.

Rest in Peace

 Please pray for the soul of George Smith RIP, from Odiham, who died last week, his Requiem Mass is on Friday 17th January at 2:45 pm in Sacred Heart.

Please keep his widow Helen, family and friends in your prayers. All are welcome at the Cross Barn, Odiham after the Mass 4 - 6 pm for afternoon tea.

The Crematorium is family only and we will join everyone at the Cross Barn later. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen

Imminent Events & Reminders

1.  Hook Churches Together -  On Saturday 11th January at 2:00 pm, please join us at St John’s Church to help litter pick Hook village.

Film show at The Life Church Centre on Thursday 16 Jan at 7:00 pm, the film being shown is ‘The Way.’ Our annual Hook and Odiham Church Together service is being held on Sunday 19th January at 6 pm in Elizabeth Hall.   please book your free ticket at http://bit.ly/TheWay2020

2.  Divine Mercy Chaplet -  Praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy is a glorious way to enter into the abundant Mercy of God. Please join us on Friday afternoons from 2:30—3:00pm in the Church. To pray for the Mercy of God on us and on the whole world.

Melfort Old Peoples Home

At this time of year let us remember our Third World Project MELFORT OLD PEOPLES HOME in Zimbabwe. We will be holding a fundraising evening early in February. For members of the Parish who are not familiar with this project we will be putting more details in the Newsletter then. However if you would like to see a short video of scenes at the Home just search on Facebook for Melfort Old Peoples Home. Zimnat (an Insurance Company in Zimbabwe) is one of the home’s supporters and has added a short video there of the home as it is this year. INDIAN EVENING - SAVE THE DATE
Indian Evening Parish Hall Saturday 1st February 7:30 pm Tickets available after Mass £7 each. Can you help with the cooking? Please talk to Jill Blackburn if you are able to help with cooking or with helping on the day. 

Charity Fundraising

Andrea Waldram has organised 2 events for her Charity fundraising ahead of running the London Marathon in April 2020.

Sunday 19th January - Cake sale in the Parish Hall after 10 am Mass, all proceeds to Children with Cancer UK. Any cake contributions greatly received.

Monday 24th February - Charity evening at Hook Tandoori for Children with Cancer UK and The National Autistic Society. Andrea Waldram and Jackie Harrison are running the London Marathon for these Charities. Tickets are £20 per person which includes Poppadum, Starter and Main Course with Naan Bread. Numbers are limited so book your tickets ASAP. Contact Jackie 07881620701 or Andrea 07823449333. There will be a raffle so any contributions will be welcome.

Safeguarding Training

We have arranged for Safeguarding training to be held on Saturday 5th February at St Joseph’s Church, St Michael’s Road, Basingstoke RG22 6TY. If you are a Catechist or an Extraordinary Minister who takes Communion to the sick you must complete safeguarding training Please contact our Safeguarding team on safeguardinghook@gmail.com or via the Parish Office to book a place.

St Gabriel's Group Continuing Journey in Faith

St Gabriel's Group ‘Continuing Journey in Faith' - with Deacon Pat O’Connell Being held at St Bede’s Church, Popley - on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm for 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm. ‘Matrimony’ - a discussion on the beauty of this Sacrament together with the psychological challenges faced by all married couples today Next session is Thursday 06 February 2020

The Blessed Charles De Doucauld Fraternity

We recently started a Fraternity of blessed Charles de Foucauld in our parish. We get together once a month for couple of hours at convenient day and time for all. We start with the exposition of the blessed sacrament in the church. We also read the Sunday's gospel reading and contemplate on the reading and share our views. We also discuss the life and writings of blessed Charles de Foucauld. The next meeting is in Monday 20th January at 2.15 pm, in the Convent.
