5th Sunday of Lent Newsletter

We begin this Holy Week with the reading of the Lord’s Passion from the Gospel of Matthew. It is fitting that during this week we intensely focus our minds and hearts on the steps of our Saviour as He laid down His very life for us.  More on this in the downloadable newsletter below, where you'll also get the answers to the recent quiz and other updates, prayers and news.

You can read the daily readings and Gospel including Palm Sunday here.

Live Streaming at Sacred Heart

The Mass will also be streamed live by Fr. Paul from the Sacred Heart Facebook Page on Sunday 5th at 10am.  If you don't have a Facebook account, now's a great time to create one, like and follow us.

The Mass will also be streamed live from St Bedes on Sunday at 9am and 11am.
Also streamed live at St Jospeh 6pm Sat and 10am Sunday

I have received a number of requests from Parishioners who normally, very kindly, donate to our Parish using the envelopes when they attend Mass.

As this is no longer possible, I am being asked for our Bank account details to set up Standing Orders . In response, the details are as follows: `

Account number 00880117
Sort code 30 93 04
Name PRCDTR Sacred Heart Hook

We have been blown away by the number of people offering help for the elderly, sick and housebound and now offers of financial help for our Church and Priests, particularly when we all face a time of difficulty and uncertainty. I have always loved being a part of the Sacred Heart community and this just reinforces how wonderful our parish is!

The Pope’s special Urbi et Orbi blessing: ‘God turns everything to our good’
Pope Francis delivered a most moving blessing and homily “To the City and to the World” on Friday to pray for an end to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. In his meditation, the Pope reflects on Jesus’ words to His disciples: “Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?” Watch the full recording now.

The God Who Speaks
The God Who Speaks
Lent has taken an unexpected turn this year, and many are adjusting to living in isolation while others keep working courageously, and often heroically by looking after others. Wherever we are, we all remain in communion with God and each other through the grace of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of faith, hope and charity. To make this communion more tangible, our Formation for Mission Team and the God who Speaks national campaign are offering various initiatives which I wanted to share with you.

The Year of the Word
The Year of the Word celebrates “The God who speaks” and helps us to remember that our Lord is communicating with us every day, very frequently, but especially through the Bible. The Bible is THE Word of God and having been created though the works of the Holy Spirit, is far more that just a historical text.

This will be your one stop shop for all things Year of the Word. From Sacred Heart events, to videos, to recommended apps, to Bible audio testimonies
